‘Alcyna’s New Choreography’ is a solo, cross-sectional presentation of the work of one of Poland’s most distinctive contemporary artists, Pola Dwurnik.
Once again inspired by the character of Alcina from Ludovic Ariosto’s ‘Orlando the Mad’, Pola Dwurnik presents her in a new guise. Alcina, known as the emancipated ruler of an exotic island, is transformed in Dwurnik’s interpretation into a fellow member of an animal community.
The exhibition comprises almost 30 works in a variety of techniques: from oil paintings to collages and sculpture, and is the culmination of 15 years of the artist’s work with the figure of Alcina and the subject of the relationship between humans and animals.
The exhibition is accompanied by a sound installation composed by Daniel Ożga. In its narrative layer, the voice of the artist/witch Alcyna will guide visitors through the exhibition, inviting them to co-create the title choreography.
This is the first such comprehensive presentation of the artist’s paintings in Wrocław.
