Piwnica Świdnicka

Piwnica Świdnicka is a legendary venue on the culinary map of Wrocław and Poland – the oldest restaurant in the country, whose beginnings are dated back to the 13th century. The historic gothic cellars underneath the old city hall offer the visitors delicious food and craft beer brewed on site. Aside from culinary excellence, Piwnica Świdnicka also offers food for thought and soul – it is a space used for concerts, exhibitions of local artists, meetings with authors and workshops. It is the essence of what Wrocław strives to be – a place friendly and welcoming to all.

There is no other place in Wrocław where history so vividly binds with the present day – Piwnica Świdnicka, situated right in the middle of the medieval Market Square, in the cellars of the gothic city hall, for seven centuries has been hosting its visitors. Among millions of those who dined here we will find a long list of names known from encyclopedias and history books – Chopin, Goethe, Sigismund of Luxembourg, Steven Spielberg… The image and interior of Piwnica Świdnicka have changed dozens of times, but one element has always been constant – the excellent quality of food and beer served there, attracting visitors from all over the world like a magnet. The menu features a plethora of local regional delicacies and a selection of the best dishes which modern international cuisine has to offer. Delicious beer, which has always been a priority and symbol of Piwnica Świdnicka, is now brewed on site, in a recently-installed craft brewery. Our brewmasters offer our guests a broad selection of beer styles, including historical brews, meticulously reconstructed on the basis of archival sources. Piwnica Świdnicka is also a place to satiate your hunger for knowledge and and excitement – it is possible to take part in a guided sightseeing tour, see the brewery from the “back door” and listen to many amazing stories about people and events connected with the history of the oldest inn in Europe. The halls of Piwnica Świdnicka are often filled with live music and often become a space for workshops and artistic exhibitions. Piwnica Świdnicka is a place as rich and diverse as the city it has been proudly representing for over seven centuries – not being here is like not being in Wrocław at all.
